The Top 25 Songs of 2011: No.10

Into the top ten we go!

No.10: Childish Gambino – Heartbeat

The second entry from one of the coolest guys on the planet! This is a club banger and features more excellent MCing from Donald. Probably the most commercial track off the album too. Biig!

No.11: The Lonely Island ft. Michael Bolton – Jack Sparrow

61,649,000 views in 7 months. The third most viewed video on Youtube in 2011. Pretty good credentials huh? Add those to the fact that it’s one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen and that it features Michael Bolton and you’ve pretty much got Chris Chilvers heaven. Some of you will know about my love for Mickey B, some of you will not be surprised that I love someone so uncool. It’s not my fault. From the age of 2, I was subjected it to his music and have loved it ever since.

The Lonely Island are also incredible and I heartily recommend you check out the rest of their videos. They’re all brilliant. ‘Motherlover’ and ‘I Just Had Sex’ are particular highlights!

Top 25 Songs of 2011: No. 12

I’m well behind, so I’d better catch up!

No.12: Lloyd – Dedication To My Ex

Why, oh why, did they release this in December?! If this was released in the summer this would have been a huge hit, but in the run up to Xmas, people are unlikely to love a song that says ‘pussy’ more than 30 times. It’s a belter of a tune, loved it from the first time I heard in September and it’s definitely one of the top tunes of the year!

No.13: Jason Reeves (ft. Colbie Caillat) – No Lies

Absolutely beautiful. I somehow only properly discovered this guy about 2 weeks ago, after this countdown had begun and have slotted him in at no.13. His album also deserves to be in my top 5 albums of the year. And he certainly deserves more attention. A beautiful voice and a fantastic songwriter. Colbie is fit too, which adds nothing to this song, but adds an important element to the video!

No.14: Daughtry – Renegade

What a song! It makes me want to jump around and headbang and play air instruments and generally go pretty wild. This is the first of 2 Daughtry songs in the chart – not bad for an album that I have publicly criticised. (It is starting to grow on me now, as predicted!) Daughtry are amazing, and Chris’ voice is immense. This band needs more love!

The Top 25 Songs of 2011: No.15

No.15: Mann – Buzzin’

One of the few chart songs in this countdown. Saw Mann at the Summertime Ball in June and frankly he was rubbish, but this song will always be one of the ones that reminds me of 2011. Very much the song of the summer for me, and a big favourite in the flat too.

The Top 25 Songs of 2011: No.16

I am 2 days behind, so will have to post 3 in quick succession!

No.16: Plain White T’s – Boomerang

Not a hit in any way, shape or form, but I’m a big fan of the band and this song. There’s so much more to them than ‘Hey There Delilah’!

The Top 25 Songs of 2011: No.17

No.17 : Maroon 5 ft. Christina Aguilera – Moves Like Jagger

This must be one of the biggest songs of the year right? Even as a massive fan of Maroon 5, I could never have predicted this! I think it suffers from being overplayed, which is why it is lower in the chart than some people might expect. It probably deserves to be higher but I think I have heard it too much. I saw them live in February and it was probably the best gig I’be ever been to. I’m delighted that they’be had the success with this single, as they kinda needed a big hit to keep them going. It’s also really cool that this came out of Adam and Christina working on The Voice together. So, I expect The Script and Jessie J to colab next year! They also did a really cool experiment for Coke earlier this year, where they had to write and record a song in 24 hours, whilst cameras live streamed the whole process. It was absolutely fascinating. Also, Adam Levine is one of the coolest men alive!

The Top 25 of 2011: No. 18

Today my credibility factor hits a new low.

No.18: Taylor Swift – Back to December

What?! It’s a lovely song. Simple as that. Does it help if I claim it makes the chart ‘cos she’s fit?!

The Top 25 Songs of 2011: no. 19

No.19 – Childish Gambino – LES

Childish Gambino, or Donald Glover to give him his actual name, is the shit. Straight up. He stars as Troy in NBC’s Community which is one of my favourite TV shows, and this album is one of my favourites of the year. There’s another entry from him to come later on in this chart too. One of the best MCs I’ve ever heard, but will sadly never get the attention that he deserves. An utter legend though!
